Community Honors San Diego Civil Rights Leaders

The neighborhood unveiled busts of the civil rights heroes installed at the Martin Luther King Jr. Promenade on Tiffin Ave.

The first sculptures shown were Robbie and Barbara Robinson.

"Mr. Robinson was the catalyst, the initiator of all that you see here," Tommy Vance, a member of the Broadway Heights Community Council, said.

Robbie served as President of the Broadway Heights Community Council for 30 years, and with his wife Barbara, transformed the neighborhood into what it is today.

Broadway Heights Dedicates MLK Promenade

The Broadway Heights community celebrated the formal presentation of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Promenade with a Ribbon Cutting and over 200 persons present.The event involved the dedication of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Way between Charlene Ave. to the north and Tiffany Ave. at the south end of the King Way.

The small Southeast San Diego neighborhood of Broadway Heights, which borders Encanto and Lemon Grove, has developed a very active community council and a unique youth council which have worked to eliminate drug houses and essentially put a stop to crime. The SDPD has described Broadway Heights as a model community.
